AI in HR

Gecko HRM (archive Apr26) (18)

On 15 October 2026, we invited HR leaders to join us at the HR&M Breakfast in Ljubljana, organised by Planet GV and Gecko HRM. The panel session took on a very current topic of HR in the age of AI. We explored how leadership, skills, and company culture adapt as autonomous AI agents move from experimental tech into everyday enterprise workflows.

Moderated by Sabina Lokar, Editor of HR&M magazine, the panel featured first-hand insights from the Gecko HRM team within their specific area of expertise, including:

  • Marko Perme, CEO, on strategic AI integration and organizational transformation.
  • Jelena Rašula, Head of Marketing, on running an AI-augmented department.
  • Elena Kučej, People & Culture Manager, on evolving recruitment, core skills, and HR responsibility.

How Do Autonomous AI Agents Transform Enterprise HR Processes?

Autonomous AI agents transform HR by executing complex, multi-step workflows directly within secure business platforms. Rather than simply answering basic user queries, agents operate within strict compliance rules. They use them to handle onboarding, document checks, and administration. Therefore, turning HR systems into proactive operational hubs.

“A year ago, we wrestled with how to prompt AI to reliably answer simple queries like remaining leave balances. Today, in our lab environment, we trigger multi-step workflows. With a single prompt, an agent onboarded a new employee in Gecko HRM, scheduled their medical exam, sent necessary forms, and provided advice on fixed-term contract compliance.”

— Marko Perme, CEO

Both Marko and Elena stressed that while AI agents handle heavy operational execution, human oversight remains non-negotiable. AI is an execution tool, not an excuse for poor output, and final accountability always rests with people.

What Changes Inside Departments When AI Agents are Introduced?

HR in the age of AI means integrating AI agents and allowing internal teams to scale output dramatically without increasing administrative overhead. By coordinating specialised agents for research, draft creation, and design, teams eliminate routine tasks, cut external agency costs. This helps them focus their energy on strategy and strategic human relationships.

“We now operate like a 10-person department at a fraction of the cost. AI agents handle standard, repetitive tasks, often working overnight, freeing us to focus on strategy and high-impact work.”

— Jelena Rašula, Head of Marketing

How Should HR Adapt Recruitment and Talent Assessment?

HR teams can adapt recruitment by replacing traditional take-home assignments with live, on-site evaluations. Because candidates routinely use AI tools to generate polished responses, hiring processes must focus on critical thinking, adaptability, learning agility, and behavioral experiences rather than standardised test outputs.

To evaluate candidates effectively as a part of HR in the age of AI, Gecko HRM focuses on three core areas:

  • Firstly – strategic thinking and flexibility: Assessed through behavioral interviews focusing on past real-world challenges.
  • Secondly – critical thinking: Evaluated on-site by asking candidates to review and improve intentionally flawed AI drafts.
  • And lastly – learning agility: Measured using cognitive testing to see how quickly individuals adapt to new operational patterns.

Why Junior Talent Remains Essential in AI-Driven Organizations?

Addressing concerns that AI might eliminate entry-level positions, the panel highlighted why junior talent remains vital. While AI enables junior employees to perform at higher levels faster, senior expertise is required to evaluate AI outputs critically. Using AI to streamline onboarding allows senior staff to mentor junior talent efficiently, building a resilient pipeline of future leaders.

How Can Organizations Protect Company Culture and Wellbeing During AI Adoption?

Organizations protect their culture by enforcing clear communication standards and setting boundaries against cognitive overload. Leadership must strive to prevent constant context-switching across AI tools and prohibit sending unrefined AI-generated text. In doing so, they are ensuring internal and external communication remains thoughtful, clear, and respectful.

Prevent cognitive overload: Working alongside multiple hyper-responsive agents causes rapid context-switching. Leadership must encourage staff to step away from screens and protect face-to-face time.

Eliminate low-quality AI outputs: Relying on raw AI output generates long, vague text. Marko emphasized that sending unrefined AI copy signals a lack of respect, and employees must take full ownership of their output.

What Are the Key Strategic Takeaways for HR Decision-Makers?

We can summarise them in three main points:

Exit Manual HR Administration: Move away from repetitive data entry and reinvest saved time into high-impact areas like leadership coaching, workplace culture, and employee engagement.

Preserve Organizational Knowledge: Use AI agents to structure and retain operational knowledge inside secure enterprise systems so expertise stays within the business during staff transitions.

Empower Employees as Delegators: Managing AI agents requires clear goal-setting, contextual delegation, and critical evaluation, elevating everyday employees into effective decision-makers.
